T'was in a land I met a man all wrinkled with no teeth, who's head boar piles of laundry while balanced on two feet
He smiled and asked what time of day in a way so lyrical, I asked him to repeat and he said this with a smile...
An accent in and of itself is a stranger to the ears of those who listen it confounds what to the eyes appears.
"Let's cue up" or "Guh dawn'ya!" may draw a funny face. "Hi, ya'll, my name is Jahmin" could start a merry chase.
So how do strangers become friends? I now had come to ask. I'd try to shake more hands if it were such a simple task.
Turn down the sound of "different" that judgement can impart and wait to hear the music by listening with your heart.

Our Mission
The mission of Aurora Community Study Circles is creating dialogue to promote an active and just citizenry. Our vision is an informed citizenry that seeks solutions to community concerns across multi-cultural boundaries. By enhancing understanding among all our citizens, Aurora Community Study Circles hopes to build a stronger community by expanding the participation of citizens diverse by race, ethnicity, gender, age, and socioeconomic levels. The organization is committed to fostering racial justice and working, through positive conflict resolution models, toward solving our community’s social and economic problems.
Our Goals
Circles of Understanding
Through Circles of Understanding small groups of people diverse by race, ethnicity, gender, age, and economic level talk and share their feelings about racial and ethnic relations and issues. We hope to become a community whose residents can more easily work and play together. The more Circles of Understanding we have, the greater the chance we have of building a diverse community-wide network that can develop solutions to racial and ethnic tensions and pressing social issues.
Many Young Voices
Through Many Young Voices we bring young people together to share their unique cultural, ethnic and racial experiences in the world today and give them the opportunity to have a voice in public issues that affect and involve them. The goal is to sustain an ongoing teen dialogue using face-to-face meetings across the City of Aurora and to use our teen website to give voice to teens in a public way. Many Young Voices is led and implemented by teens with guidance and support from adults. Learn more...
Our Community
The City of Aurora, IL, like most American communities has evolved into a multi-racial, multi-ethnic community with all of the complexitites that such a community implies.
If we are to live together, in desired harmony, we must come to a greater understanding and appreciation of each other. Such is the purpose of Aurora Community Study Circles.
